Ram, a division of Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA), has clued the public in on its plans for pickup models in 2016. It will be taking two of its mid-year 2015 models into 2016 - the Ram 1500 Laramie Limited with super-luxury trim and the Ram 1500 Rebel off-road package - with some added upgrades and tweaks. These improvements include a new center console equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, which encourages the hands-free operation of various features.
The company will also offer new engine options with decidedly more horsepower and torque than in the 2015 models, although the 3.0-L EcoDiesel V6 engine that puts out 240 hp and 420 lb-ft. of torque will still be offered for green consumers. Next year, Ram buyers can also choose from a redesigned 3.6-L V6 Pentastar with approximately 14% more torque and a 5.7-L HEMI V8 engine that produces 395 hp and 410 lb-ft. of torque.
Three-quarter and one-ton pickups are also still part of Ram's wheelhouse, with improvements coming to the 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty models in 2016. Adjustments to the fuel delivery system and turbo boost on these large trucks should boost the 6.7-L diesel engine's torque output from 865 lb-ft. to 900 lb-ft, greatly increasing towing capacity and overall power.
